Letter to Support Immunization Legislation

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 3/31/2015

No earlier than 1:30 p.m., the Board will hear a request for a presentation by the Public Health Officer regarding immunizations and a request to send a letter supporting Senate Bill 277 to the authors of the bill. The proposed legislation would eliminate most exemptions that currently allow parents to avoid requirements to vaccinate their children. It would permit only medical exemptions to vaccination requirements and direct school boards to disclose the immunization rates of schools to parents and guardians of children who attend that district's schools. Marin has seen a rise in vaccine-preventable diseases such as pertussis and measles largely because some residents refuse or delay vaccinating their children.

The Board heard the presentation and approved, on a vote of 4-1 (Kinsey dissenting), to send a modified letter of support for SB 277.
