Speed Limit on Multiuse Pathway

Board of Supervisors

Meeting Date: 3/17/2015

The Board will hear the first reading of an ordinance amending Title 10 of the Marin County Code pertaining to speed limits on the Mill Valley-Sausalito Multiuse Pathway. The 3.1-mile pathway has been a popular recreational corridor since its construction more than 30 years ago. With increased use and the mix of recreational and transportation users has come increased conflicts. A Path Safety Working Group Staff recommended that a traffic-slowing roundabout be installed at the path's intersection at Sycamore Avenue in Mill Valley and that a speed reduction measure be implemented. The roundabout was recently completed. The proposed speed limit would be 10 mph, down from 15 mph, for a section nearly half a mile in length. Staff recommends that a merit hearing be scheduled for 10:30 a.m. March 31.

The Board heard the first reading of the ordinance and scheduled the merit hearing for 10:30 a.m. March 31.
