The Board will consider adopting a resolution proclaiming the first day of autumn, Sept. 22, 2013, as "Fall Prevention Awareness Day." About 30 percent of Marin's population is 60 or older, and one in there older adults experiences a fall that causes injury each year. The Board seeks to raise awareness of the issue and urge nonprofits, health care providers and other local agencies to join in the outreach effort.

The Board adopted the resolution. Chief Mark Heine and Battalion Chief Ted Peterson spoke about the subject on behalf of the Novato Fire District.

The Board will consider adopting a resolution proclaiming Sept. 28, 2013, as "Marin County POW/MIA Recognition Day." A special event, hosted by the Marin Alliance for the American Spirit (MAAS) and the County of Marin is planned at Marin Veterans Memorial Auditorium that day to pay respects to former prisoners of war and their familes, the families of those missing in action, and to connect military veterans to government services they might need.

The Board consider adopting a resolution commending Marin County providers for exceptional efforts to prevent and end homelessness and endorsing Home For All, Marin’s updated 10-Year Plan to Prevent and End Homelessness. Home For All, adopted in June by Marin County’s Homeless Policy Steering Committee, focuses on three goals: 1) Drastically reducing chronic homelessness in 5 years; 2) Reducing the total number of homeless individuals and families over 10 years; and 3) Reducing the amount of time individuals and families spend in programs before becoming self-sufficient in stable housing.

The Board will consider adopting the 2012 Draft Housing Element, the 2007 Countywide Plan Final Supplemental Environmental Impact Report (SEIR), Marin Countywide Plan Amendments, Marin County Development Code amendments and zoning map amendments. On June 4, the Board approved a resolution to complete the Housing Element Update by Jan. 31, 2014, to maintain eligibility for grant funding. On July 8, the Planning Commission recommended that the Board approve the Housing Element Update.
