At the request of Supervisor Arnold, the Board will hear a presentation from the Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity, a Marin-based nonprofit that provides a safety net of stable housing and guidance for young adults who are homeless or at risk of being homeless.

The Board heard the presentation and watched a short video about the Ambassadors of Hope and Opportunity. The organization's founding director, Zara Babitzke, and student advocate Kaila McDonald spoke about the program and thanked the Supervisors for the recognition.

At the request of Supervisor Arnold, the Board will consider adoption of a resolution proclaiming May 4-11 as Affordable Housing Week. The County strives to adopt sustainable solutions to housing issues and promote fairness in the areas of race, status, disability and religion.

At the request of Supervisor Rice, the Board will consider adoption of a resolution proclaiming May 6-10 as Wildfire Awareness Week. After an unseasonably dry winter, fire season as started early and residents are urged to join Marin County Fire and other agencies in raising awareness of fire prevention.

The Board adopted the resolution. Marin County Fire Department Chief Jason Weber accepted the resolution and spoke to the urgency about public education during this early starting wildland fire season.

At the request of Supervisor Kinsey, the Board will consider a resolution proclaiming May 2013 as CalFresh Awareness Month and hear a presentation from the Marin Food Policy Council on public outreach efforts for the CalFresh program. Otherwise known as the national Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the state CalFresh program helps put nutritious food on the table by issuing monthly electronic benefits that can be used to buy food at retail outlets.

Preview
The Board will conduct a hearing about housing, community development needs and the County's performance pertaining to community development. Continuing a series of hearings in various planning areas, the Board will be asked to adopt a budget for three grants expected to be received in July, resulting in amendments to the Consolidated Plan. The affected budgets are for the Community Development Block Grants, the HOME Investment Partnership Program and the Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program.

The Board approved a budget for the 2013-14 allocations of Community Development Block Grant, HOME Investment Partnerships Program, and Housing Opportunities for Persons with AIDS Program funding from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. The programs support local nonprofit and public agencies providing affordable housing, community facilities and public services.
