County of Marin Race Equity Planning Committee

The County of Marin is recruiting 15-20 community members to serve on the Race Equity Planning Committee, which will be a central resource in guiding the revision of the County’s 2017 Race Equity Plan. The Race Equity Planning Committee is a working group convened by the County Administrator's Office, which is seeking members to collaboratively provide recommendations to the County on how to build an anti-racist and multicultural community. The committee is a one-year commitment of six or less hours per month.

Many of the initiatives laid out in the 2017 plan have been initiated, but there is so much more to be done. This committee will review the plan and make recommendations on necessary changes in light of urgent calls for civil rights, social justice, inclusivity, diversity and equity within Marin County.

Committee applicants must meet the following requirements which include being a current Marin County resident AND identify as at least one of the following:

  • A community member who is Black, Indigenous or a person of color
  • A community member who identifies as a woman
  • A community member who is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans*, Queer, Questioning, Intersex, Asexual (LGBTQQIA+)
  • A community member who is between the ages of 15 and 25
  • A community member who is 60 years of age or older
  • A community member who is facing chronic illnesses, mental health challenges, or disabilities
  • A community member who is undocumented or underdocumented
  • Community members of all ethno-religious groups, regardless of race, ethnicity, faith or spirituality

County staff is also interested in making sure that the committee includes representation from throughout Marin County (regional diversity). In order to ensure broad inclusion of voices, only two committee members will be selected who represent nonprofit organizations in Marin County.

The Race Equity Planning Committee will be led by County Equity Director, Anyania Muse and Assistant County Administrator, Angela Nicholson. Led by an outside facilitator, the committee will work toward making recommendations for updates to the 2017 Race Equity Plan.
