Office of the County Executive

Matthew H. Hymel, County Executive

The County Executive is appointed by the Board of Supervisors to implement Board decisions. Our office operates directly under the Board of Supervisors and wears two hats: as the legislative function of the Board by providing research, information, and recommendations; and the executive function of the Board by providing management assistance.

The Office of the County Executive is responsible for preparing the county budget, providing the Board of Supervisors with the information they need for making decisions, representing the county in intergovernmental relationships and coordinating the work of all county departments, ensuring they provide timely, accurate and coordinated information to the public. We also help in the resolution of interdepartmental problems, support the Civic Center Conservancy, and coordinate the overall administration of county government.

Our staff also helps coordinate planning for racial equity, County facilities, and administers insurance, workers compensation, safety, and other matters relating to risk management.
