Opening on Flood Control Zone #3 Advisory Board

Residents near Richardson Bay encouraged to apply

San Rafael, CA - – The application deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Friday, July 7, for an opening on the Marin County Flood Control Zone (FCZ) #3 Advisory Board. Applicants must reside in and be registered voters of the FCZ #3 area.

The board meets three or four times each year, and members serve four-year terms. All interested residents are encouraged to apply, especially those with previous board experience, an interest in improving flood mitigation, and a commitment to the community.

Zone #3 includes a large portion of Southern Marin draining to Richardson Bay including the City of Mill Valley and unincorporated communities including Alto, Sutton Manor, Almonte, Tamalpais Valley, Homestead Valley, and portions of Strawberry Point. Applicants for this particular seat are especially sought from the low-lying areas of Tam Valley in the Tam Junction and Kay Park areas, also affectionately referred to as Birdland.

The Marin County Board of Supervisors formed FCZ #3 in 1956 less than a year after devastating floods. Maintenance activities include servicing of pump stations, tide gates, levees and drainage ditches, and an annual vegetation maintenance program. The advisory board reviews flood control projects and the zone’s proposed annual budget and, in both cases, advises the Public Works Department and the Board of Supervisors of its findings.

Apply online or learn more about the application process by calling the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors at 415-473-7331. Request an application via email at commissions@marincounty.org or at the Clerk of the Board of Supervisors, Suite 329, 3501 Civic Center Drive, San Rafael CA 94903.
