Countdown Time for Marin County Fair

75th anniversary edition less than a month away

San Rafael, CA – Tickets are available now for the 2016 Marin County Fair, which will celebrate 75 years of history between June 30 and July 4 at the Marin County Fairgrounds in San Rafael.

A girl of about 2 years old reaches to pet a chicken at a fair exhibitThe farm animal exhibits are among the most popular with young kids at the Marin County Fair.
This year’s theme is 75 Years – What a Ride! as the Marin County Department of Cultural Services highlights the local fair-going experiences that began with the 1925 Marin County Fair and Harvest Festival in Novato. The fair will feature a booth called Capturing Fair Memories at which visitors will be able to share memories of past Marin County Fairs in a recording booth. Staff is building a digital time machine to preserve all of shared memories for the next 75 years.

“We like to think of our fair as fast-paced, forward-thinking and always on the fast track of cultural developments,” said Gabriella C. Calicchio, Director of Cultural Services. “We strive to offer first-caliber everything from the arts, technology, facilities, learning, exhibits and unique programs found nowhere else in the nation. The fair combines classic fair exhibits with innovative new ideas. Add to that, one-of-a-kind events, cuisines both local and global, welcoming staff, cultural diversity and a rich history and legacy.”

The fair, one of the Bay Area’s favorite summer events, is an award-winning leader in the fair industry and has a national reputation for celebrating art, agriculture and community. The staff prides itself on its claim of being the “Greenest County Fair on Earth” with its solar-powered carousel and stage, commitment to water conservation and a record of 94 percent waste diversion to compost and recycling.

“This is the reputation and brand that the Marin County Fair has built over the past 75 years,” Calicchio said, “and I look forward to carrying that tradition forward to the next 75 years.”

Renowned for presenting world-class music, the fair once again offers a stellar lineup of bands every night of the fair including The Wallflowers, Kool & the Gang, Sheila E., the Plain White T’s, and Foreigner. The fair’s competitive exhibit categories showcase the creativity of talented, artistic, technologically savvy, green-thumbed, and creative Marin and greater Bay Area residents.
