San Rafael, CA - The County of Marin has reached tentative labor agreements with Teamsters Local 856 (Probation Department workers) and the Probation Managers Association.
The parties began negotiating in early 2015 and agreed to terms that provide health care and income stability for employees while reducing the County’s pension contribution made on behalf of employees, called the Employer Paid Member Contribution (EPMC).
The tentative agreements include a three-year term and will be presented to the Board of Supervisors on July 14. The contracts cover approximately 82 County of Marin employees.
The terms of the agreements also include a 3 percent cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) in each year of the agreement, a .79 percent decrease in the EPMC, an increase in the County’s contribution to health care for employees who cover at least one dependent on County coverage, and a reduction in the vacation accrual rates for new employees.
“This was a hard round of bargaining when County employees had gone four years without cost-of-living adjustments, but I was happy to see the Probation Workers and the Probation Managers Association work with the County to find mutually agreeable solutions,” said Roger Crawford, Deputy Director of Human Resources.
“The contract was overwhelming ratified by the membership,” said Malia Vella, representative from Teamsters Local 856.
The County remains in active good-faith bargaining with Marin Association of Public Employees, Marin County Management Employees’ Association, Sheriffs Staff Officers Association, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees and Moving Picture Machine Operators, Teamsters Local 856, and Deputy District Attorneys.
