County to Auction Surplus Vehicles and Equipment

Department of Public Works to offer deals online starting September 5

San Rafael, CA – Vehicles and many types of equipment will be available for public purchase starting September 5 when the Marin County Department of Public Works starts an online auction.

A sign says 'County of Marin Corporation Yard'Surplus sedans, patrol vehicles, mowers, sweepers and even some Army tent trailers are among the 16 sale items. All vehicles and equipment will be available through PublicSurplus.com, a secure auction website specializing in selling government property to the public.

As the County government’s goals remain fixed on the reduction of unnecessary spending and the increase of environmental consciousness, the County fleet is being trimmed. Vehicles with high fuel consumption are being sold and if possible replaced by hybrids or flex fuel option vehicles. The County fleet now has almost 70 hybrid and/or electric vehicles.

The auction begins at midnight Pacific time on Saturday, September 5, and lasts until 2 p.m. Saturday, September 12. Details about the auction items are not available or visible on the website until the auction begins. Vehicles and their corresponding service records will be available for inspection Tuesday, September 8, through Thursday, September 10, from noon until 3 p.m. at the County Garage, 6 Peter Behr Dr., San Rafael.

All items are sold as-is and all sales are final; it is the bidder’s responsibility to check the vehicle’s condition prior to purchase.
