Help update county transportation plans at workshops June 2 and 3

San Rafael, CA – County of Marin staff who are focused on improving nonmotorized transportation would like to tap the knowledge of cyclists and walkers who use pathways and streets to get around in West Marin and north San Rafael.

Two cyclists pass each other on a path near Walker Creek Ranch in rural West Marin.Bicycle and pedestrian master plans throughout Marin are being updated, and two public workshops are set for Tuesday, June 2, in north San Rafael, and Wednesday, June 3, in Point Reyes Station. The June 2 meeting will include plans for the unincorporated areas of north San Rafael, including Lucas Valley, Marinwood, and Santa Venetia. The June 3 meeting will pertain to plans all over West Marin.

The Marin County Department of Public Works (DPW) is hosting the workshops to share information about existing facilities and plans for future routes. It will be a prime opportunity for cyclists and walkers to identify spots where new facilities are needed most.

Dan Dawson, Principal Transportation Planner for County DPW, said the meetings are the first in a series to help update the countywide master plan, “We’d like to hear from anyone who regularly uses nonmotorized power to get around in Marin,” he said.

After meetings in other areas have taken place, information from the public will be incorporated into a draft master plan to be presented to the Marin County Board of Supervisors in late 2015, Dawson said.

Help improve walking and bicycling in northern San Rafael by attending the June 2 workshop from 7-9 p.m. at Marin Commons, 1600 Los Gamos Drive, Room 130 (enter through Lobby A on the freeway side of the building). The June 3 workshop will be from 7-8:30 p.m. at the Dance Palace, 503 B Street, Point Reyes Station.
