San Rafael, CA – Mark your calendars for a free day of family fun, celebration and learning about Marin’s fascinating wildlife: October 25 at Children’s Island in Lagoon Park, across Civic Center Drive from the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael.
Marin County Parks, the Marin Municipal Water District, and the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy will host the event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. as part of the 4th annual Bay Area Science Festival, a 10-day festival of science and technology that starts October 23.
Wildlife diversity plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy and functioning ecosystems. This event will be a fantastic chance to learn more from the organizations that make it their mission to protect Marin’s natural lands and the diverse wildlife that live here. There are more than 150 species of birds living and breeding in Marin. Our local creeks support some of the strongest coho salmon populations in Northern California. Our hills are home to California’s top predator, the mountain lion, plus many other majestic and beautiful animals.
Marin’s Wildlife Discovery Day will be one of many science festival discovery events around the Bay Area that feature hands-on-activities, exhibits, performances and family-oriented science entertainment. The festival is geared toward families with children up to age 14 with a special emphasis on those who traditionally do not have access to quality science education resources.
Created by the Bay Area’s scientific, cultural and educational institutions, the Bay Area Science Festival is produced by the Science & Health Education Partnership at UC San Francisco along with a core group of science institutions. The festival will provide a wide range of science and technology activities — lectures, debates, exhibitions, concerts, plays, workshops – at locations throughout the Bay Area.
