Our division, Roads, holds primary responsibility for maintaining most of the roads in the unincorporated areas of our county. The exceptions are state roads, city streets, and non-county maintained roads. To enable us to handle problems more efficiently, we've divided Marin County into two areas: West Marin and Urban Eastern Marin.

We work to serve the county's residents and visitors with the least inconvenience as possible. To that end, we often do our work during the late night/early morning hours so as to cause as little impedance to traffic flow as possible. Come rain or shine, our staff are out on the County roadways to ensure the right-of-ways remain open and safe for travel.

Fairfax-Bolinas Road from Azalea Hill to Highway 1

Location: Fairfax-Bolinas Road, from Azalea Hill to Highway 1 in Bolinas.

Condition: The 10-mile stretch of road remains closed. Roads crews have responded over a dozen times to clear debris, slides and tree hazards since it was closed on January 6. Currently along the closed roadway, there are more than 20 hazardous locations being assessed, including many unstable slides and tree hazards.

Estimated Opening: Soils engineers and arborists are checking the stretch of road regularly, but the soil in the area remains heavily saturated/unstable and major work will have to wait until it dries out. The roadway is still too hazardous for the public and will remain closed until further notice. There is no current time estimate.
