Geographical Information Systems (GIS)

Charlie Haase, Chief Information Officer, Information Services and Technology

Currently, the County of Marin's Geographic Information Systems (GIS) team has developed applications and a tips and pointers sheet which are available to the public, professionals and law enforcement organizations. Future applications may include additional data for the Probation department and law enforcement officials.  Data from these maps will be accessible by mobile devices.

Some map data is shared by the County of Marin and Marin Map which is a nonprofit consortium of cities and agencies in Marin County.

The types of maps that the GIS team has developed include:

  • Political boundaries
  • Land records
  • Census block data that can be used for redistricting
  • Voter polling locations
  • Open space land boundaries including:
    • Greenbelt areas
    • Zoning maps
    • Local coastal areas
    • Soil and geology
