Interactive Wildland Urban Interface Zone Map

The Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) represents areas where homes/structures are in close proximity to or intermixed with wildland/open space areas. Marin County’s wildland-urban interface (WUI) zone is periodically reviewed and updated as warranted. The areas determined to be within the WUI zone inform Marin County Fire Department’s, as well as their sister fire agency’s and major land-owner’s decisions as to where to construct fuel/fire breaks, and vegetation management and fuel reduction projects. The WUI zone determination is also a major component of Marin County Fire Department’s Strategic Fire Plan, which in turn is part of Cal-Fire’s Strategic Fire Plan, the most recent update of which was July 1, 2013.

The WUI was determined for four main purposes: to understand the scope of the threat posed by wildfires on our communities, to more fully develop our Community Wildland Fire Protection Plan and our portion of the County's Disaster Mitigation Plan, to determine where our WUI Ordinance will apply, and to educate the public.

If you would like to learn where your home is located in proximity to a WUI, please look up your property on the WUI Zone map via the link above.
